So this is my first league that TB and OPS have been categories and I've been tracking the number of times a team wins HR/TB/OPS. So far this season 72.5% of the time a team wins all 3 categories and 90% of the time the same team wins HR & OPS.
I'm a fan of OBP over OPS. Specifically a lower BAA player can have a higher OBP if they have developed plate discipline and take a lot of walks. Just seems like we'd have more room for variance than we currently do. I know OPS is a very popular baseball statistic but it just seems redundant here. I like TB because you can still win that category with players that hit for average with a decent amount of doubles and triples.
Something to consider changing in the off-season. Thoughts?

At first glance I would say if we are going to use OBP then we need to dump AVG or OPS or both and explore other cats. Also we can cut back to a 6x6 and combo SV/HLD as one cat to accommodate. We can work on this in the off season.

The more I observe this throughout the season, I think that we could combine saves and holds and then eliminate HRs on the batting category side. Seems to me that there is a bigger upside to playing an all or nothing home run hitter over a guy who doesn't hit HRs. Additionally HRs are already compensated with a Run, a RBI, 4 Total Bases, and higher OPS. That singular stat affects 5 categories each time it happens so why tack on another point in the scoring column by counting HRs. I think TB is the better of the 2 and I can also see where OPS should stay.

I get the idea, but I would find it hard to deviate from the original 5 cats. I get the idea that OPS and TB might be won by the same team each week so maybe there might need to be a tweak there, but again I would find it hard to dump HR. We can put it to vote, but I think the solution is elsewhere. We can discuss further in the near future.
