On April 6, 1973, Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees became the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history, facing Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Luis Tiant in his first plate appearance. Boomer" Blomberg was walked.
It's crazy this was 46 years ago, you would think at some point they would have adopted the rule in the NL, right? I think they should, it's hard enough today for every day players to hit with these pitchers throwing mid-90's to 100 mph with movement, like it's nothing. I think part of it is inter-league every year now has kind of watered down the experience. When it was just the World Series it was cool to see the difference there, but now we get so many games every year, it's not special anymore. Also I think this will help with pitchers health, and a hitter who might have not made the roster now has a spot.
What is your opinion on the DH in Major League Baseball? Do you like it? Is it cool that both AL and NL are different? Should it be the same in both leagues either way?
1. I like the DH and it should be in both leagues now.
2. I hate the DH and both leagues should let the pitcher hit.
3. Leave it the way it is, I like the difference in each league.
4. I have a different solution.

This is easy, keep it the way it is. I really enjoy the differences between both the American and National League. Also, who doesn't love seeing Bartolo Colon hit?

2. The DH is an abomination and detracts from the strategy of the game.

I have to go with 3 on this one. While I love the idea of both AL and NL having it and I think there is a health benefit to pitchers to a degree.. I do enjoy watching AL pitchers try to hit while in a NL park LOL
